PhD student in Space Physics (dnr: 2.2.1-403/23)

Swedish Institute of Space Physics (IRF) is seeking a highly motivated individual to join the Solar System Physics and Space Technology (SSPT) program at IRF in Kiruna, to advance our knowledge of Venus’ magnetotail plasma processes.

The Ph.D. project will focus on the analysis of data collected by the space instrument that SSPT built to understand how solar wind interaction operates on Venus.

Candidates are expected to have an MSc degree or equivalent and have demonstrated knowledge of space plasma physics in a planetary environment. Proficiency in the use of the Python programming language for data processing and analysis is required. The abilities of interdisciplinary thinking and good presentation skills are desirable. Demonstrated strong interest in planetary science and experience in studies of the Venus plasma environments are strong merits.

The position is available at the head office of the Swedish Institute of Space Physics (IRF), located in Kiruna, Sweden, for a total duration of four years.

The Ph.D. student will be affiliated with the Department of Physics at Umeå University and must therefore fulfill the university requirements.
