Computing Resources at IRF

Computer simulations and visualization are increasingly important tools in physics research. Measurements generate ever larger volumes of data that need to be analyzed and visualized. In many areas the simulation models and algorithms have matured enough to offer genuinely new insights into physical processes. In such cases the simulations complement, and can even replace, laboratory experiments and in situ measurements. One might then even speak of computer experiments.

Simulations and visualization can be very demanding in terms of computer resources. IRF is a partner in the High-Performance Computing Center North (HPC2N), a national centre for Scientific and Parallel Computing, making the computing and visualization resources of the centre available to the scientists at IRF.
